Cleo Rose Elliott was born on the 17th of September 1984, in Malibu, California. Born to Sam Elliott and Katharine Ross, Cleo was thrust into the spotlight from a young age. The only child of the pair, Cleo attended the Colin McEwan High School, before enrolling at the Joanne Barron/ D.W. Brown Acting Studio in Santa Monica, California.
Cleo got her inspiration for singing from her grandmother and learned to play the flute at a very young age. Soon after, she began working on her voice and would practice how to sing opera after training in classical singing from Charity Chapman. As she puts it,
“Classical opera is the best way to warm up your voice for singing rock. You don’t want to lose your voice rocking out.”
A career in music:
Even though Cloe played the flute during her early years and also played a little bit of guitar, she always knew she wanted to be a singer. She drew massive inspiration from Guns ‘n’ Roses, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Fiona Apple, and Sheryl Crow. After the release of her first album entitled No More Lies, Cleo revealed that her parents have always been supportive of her endeavors.
“I’m working on selling this one and working on some more songs. My parents are totally supportive of this. They’re just happy I don’t want to be an actor.”
In her own words, the best way to write is to write straight from her heart. Talking to the Malibu Times after the release of her first album, Cleo revealed,
“The only way I know to write is straight from my heart. The songs on ‘No More Lies’ are about love, of course. Finding love and losing it. But it’s not about one specific person.”
Problems with her mother:
While Cleo has had a loving relationship with her parents, her relationship with her mother deteriorated sometime around 2015. In 2018, Katherine filed for a restraining order against her daughter after she attacked her with scissors. She threatened to kill Katherine by chasing her around the house. When Katherine tried to call the police, Cleo cut the telephone lines and chased her mother around the house.
The restraining order came into effect on the 8th of March, 2018, and a hearing was scheduled at the end of the month. However, as no parties appeared in the hearing, the case was suspended.
Personal Life:
Cleo is in a happy relationship with the professional cyclist, Randy Christopher. The pair announced their relationship in 2013 but have since maintained their distance from the media.
