The call for help was from Dr. Pol at Pol Veterinary Services and Dr. Brenda moved across the town and started working at Dr. Pol’s Veterinary Services. For the first few years on the farm, Dr. Brenda faced a ton of criticism as she was the only female veterinarian on the team. In an interview with the National Geographic, Dr. Brenda revealed that it took some time for the veteran farmers to get used to having a female veterinarian on the job. However, Dr. Brenda quickly established her credibility and was the go-to person for Dr. Pol if he needed anything done. 

Nearly 28 years later, Dr. Brenda has established herself as one of the best veterinary doctors around the farm. She was cast alongside Dr. Pol in the reality TV series, The Incredible Dr. Pol. An animal lover, Dr. Brenda also relishes the versatility of her profession and stresses that veterinarians should always have a plan B. 

“Life as a veterinarian is full of variety. I never really know what I may have to do from day to day. We start the day with a schedule and a plan, but the plan gets modified as needed depending on what phone calls come in and what emergencies happen. The ability to multi-task and work with plan B are very important skills.”
