In his memoir, Kiss Me Like a Stranger: My Search for Love and Art, Gene candidly presented his estranged relationship with Katharine and wanted her to forgive his actions, but knew that she would never read the book. It was never revealed if Katharin and Gene reconciled their differences before the death of the actor.
