One of the original cast members of the reality TV series, Gold Rush, Todd Hoffman is the son of Jack Hoffman. When Jack had all but given up on his dream of mining in Alaska, it was Todd Hoffman who picked up the pieces of his father’s broken dream and motivated him to have another go. Since then, the Hoffman crew has raked in large amounts of gold. But as competition increased, so did the battle for gold, and Todd Hoffman decided to leave the show and struck out on his own. Early Life of Todd Hoffman:

Todd Hoffman was born on the 12th of April 1969 in Sandy, Oregon. Born to Jack Hoffman and Georgia Hoffman, Todd spent most of his early life in Oregon. In the 1980s, his father, Jack Hoffman, set out to Alaska to hunt for gold but failed miserably. His father’s failures had a huge impact on Todd and he wanted to make sure that his father got the chance to redeem himself. He attended the Portland Christian High School located in Oregon before setting off to William Jessup University in California. 

Professional Career: 

After graduating from University, Todd started working in aviation and was on-course to make a fine career out of it. However, when the recession hit in 2008, travel was the first place that was cut down. Todd’s company took the impact of the recession head-on and could not survive. 

“I started seeing everything go to hell in a handbasket. It turned out to be desperation. Seeing everything fold around you, companies that never go away start going away.”  

As he headed back home, Todd decided to pursue gold mining in Alaska with simple reasoning that when the government agreed to flood markets with cash, the price of gold would go up.

Gold Rush:

Todd collected his father’s years of experience as a gold prospector and a couple of friends who had been hit by the recession. The group was renamed as the Hoffman crew and started gold mining in Alaska. Around the same time, Todd mailed the executive producers of the RAW network with an idea for an all-new TV show. Fortunately for Todd, the producers agreed to the proposal and cast the Hoffman crew in an all-new TV series, Gold Rush.

Since then, the Hoffmans have been a staple of the series and have made successive appearances until the 8th season. At the end of the 8th season, the Hoffmans decided to drop from the series and revealed that they would not be returning to the ninth season of the show. Todd revealed that he had to step away from the show as it resulted in him being away from his family for long periods and it took a toll on all of them. 

Life After the series:

While the Hoffman crew have left the series, they have since continued mining. Todd is also the owner of ZUM Media which was established in 2016. But regardless of his departure, Todd enjoys gold mining and believes there is nothing like it. 

“I don’t care what you are, if you shorted stock or bought this biomedical firm, there is nothing more pure and sweet than digging gold out of the ground. Because that is something that is real. We’ve been doing it for thousands and thousands of years, and I’m telling you you can’t get any closer to pure asskicking than that.”

He is married to Shawna Hoffman and the pair have two sons, Hunter Hoffman and Hudson Hoffman, and one daughter Olivia Hoffman, while only Hunter Hoffman was featured on the show.  The family is getting bigger as both the Hoffmans sons are enjoying their love life with their girlfriends.
